Calibration Session Protocol

  1. All Training and Practice Session steps (steps 1-5, above) are conducted with all EXT’s both independently and in groups to obtain non-blinded feedback (i.e., non-blinded calibration).

  2. EXT’s independently conduct blinded calibration (not observed or reviewed by others) on  2-3 subjects, primarily symptomatic  TMD patients

  3. Entire exam is conducted by each examiner on each of the 2-3 patients.

  4. If patients are scheduled simultaneously, a recorder is assigned to each subject, and the examiners move from subject to subject.  In addition to recording each exam the recorder keeps a systematic record of observed variations in examination technique and patient instruction among EXT’s.

  5. GSE and EXT’s assemble to review each EXT’s examination experiences.  Data from this session is analyzed and reviewed and from the ensuing discussion, reexamination of subjects occurs when there is a discrepancy.

  6. As much as possible, all examiners examine same subjects in order to note, discuss and ameliorate differences in examination procedures.

Note: Subjects can be used to provide feedback and clarification.

Time Requirements :

2 hours total for GSE and all EXT
